Glovo faces labor sanctions and legal setbacks in Spain

Glovo is facing significant legal and regulatory challenges in Spain regarding its labor practices. The High Court of Justice of the Balearic Islands (TSJIB) has upheld labor inspections conducted in the region. These inspections, initiated following the implementation of the ‘Ley Rider’, targeted the company for the use of false self-employed workers. The company had attempted to annul these inspections, arguing they violated its right to defense, but the court dismissed these claims.

In a separate matter, the Labor Inspectorate has proposed sanctions against Glovo for failing to protect workers during extreme weather. Specifically, in Barcelona, the company allegedly failed to suspend delivery operations during a red heat alert on July 8, when temperatures exceeded 40 degrees Celsius. Despite internal protocols designed to suspend services for cyclists and motorcyclists during such alerts, operational directors reportedly kept the application active, leading to a serious breach of occupational risk prevention regulations.
