GLP-1 drugs considered promising candidates for longevity therapy

Researchers are investigating whether GLP‑1 medications such as Ozempic and Zepbound can slow biological aging. Geroscientists note that these weight‑loss drugs influence several “hallmarks of aging,” suggesting they may become the first approved gerotherapeutics. A recent human study reported encouraging results, and experts anticipate more rigorous evidence within the next five to ten years.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has not yet approved any drug specifically for aging, as the agency does not classify aging as a disease. Nevertheless, scientists are using existing GLP‑1 drugs off‑label while federal programs fund further research into aging‑targeted therapies.
