GLP-1 drugs linked to slowed aging and reduced muscle loss
A University of California‑San Diego study of semaglutide (Ozempic) in more than 100 adults with HIV found that the GLP‑1 drug slowed biological aging in 42 % of participants after 24 weeks. The researchers said the drug may re‑program cells to boost immune health and reduce inflammation. “We are not saying that semaglutide reverses aging or makes people younger,” said associate professor Michael Corley.
Separate research published in Nature Medicine reported that the myostatin inhibitor apitegromab cut muscle loss by over 50 % in participants taking tirzepatide (Mounjaro). The trial showed improvements in grip strength and walking speed. “These are early days but amazing results – potentially a game changer,” said endocrinologist Dr Ambrish Mithal.
