GLP-1 weight-loss drugs drive demand for aesthetic and skincare products

The widespread use of GLP-1 weight-loss medications is driving significant shifts in the beauty and nutrition industries. A phenomenon known as ‘Ozempic face’—characterized by loss of facial volume, sagging skin, and increased wrinkles due to rapid subcutaneous fat loss—has led to a surge in demand for aesthetic procedures and specialized skincare.

Beauty brands are launching a new category of ‘GLP-1 companion skincare,’ including collagen-boosting treatments, fillers, and hydrating serums designed to address skin laxity and volume loss. Some data suggests nearly 50 percent of weight-loss drug users plan to undergo aesthetic procedures after reaching their target weight.

Medical experts are also working to clarify common misconceptions regarding these drugs. While GLP-1 agonists effectively regulate appetite by slowing gastric emptying and increasing satiety, they do not completely eliminate hunger. Common side effects include nausea, constipation, and indigestion, which often occur during the initial stages of treatment or dose increases.
