GLP-1 weight-loss drugs drive shifts in Brazilian retail and bridal markets
The widespread use of GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro, is driving significant shifts in various consumer markets in Brazil.
In the sportswear sector, Track&Field CEO Fernando Tracanella reported a noticeable migration toward smaller clothing sizes across both male and female lines. The company attributes this trend to its high-income customer base, which has greater access to expensive weight-loss therapies.
The wedding industry is also experiencing disruptions. High-end bridal ateliers report that rapid weight loss caused by these medications is forcing significant alterations or complete reconstructions of custom wedding dresses. This phenomenon has increased labor time and resource consumption for designers as clients undergo substantial body composition changes in short periods.
