Milan to host Metabolic Frontier symposium on Glp-1 therapies
The rapid rise of Glp-1 receptor agonist therapies for weight management has prompted the launch of ‘The Metabolic Frontier 2026’, an Italian symposium scheduled for October 8 in Milan. Organized by Sprim Italia, the event will address the impact of these therapies on health, nutrition, and healthcare policy.
According to the OsMed 2025 report by Aifa, consumption of Glp-1 analogues for weight management grew by 85.7% in a single year, resulting in 172.6 million euros of private expenditure borne entirely by citizens. While originally developed for type 2 diabetes, these molecules are significantly altering the clinical landscape of metabolic health.
The symposium will feature experts such as Francesco Saverio Mennini, discussing weight management as a macroeconomic driver, and Naveed Sattar, regarding clinical innovation. The event aims to bring together clinicians, nutritionists, pharmaceutical industry representatives, and policymakers to discuss the sustainability and global impact of these treatments.
