GLP-1 weight‑loss drugs linked to higher testosterone and improved sperm quality in obese men
Research presented at the ENDO 2026 conference in Chicago analyzed five randomized controlled trials of GLP‑1 medications—including dulaglutide, liraglutide and semaglutide—in men aged 18 to 65 with obesity. The systematic review found that GLP‑1 drugs did not suppress the hypothalamic‑pituitary‑gonadal axis and were associated with rises in testosterone levels, better sperm concentration, shape and motility, and improvements in cholesterol and blood‑sugar markers. One 24‑week trial with semaglutide reported enhanced sperm morphology while maintaining overall testosterone.
A separate study reported by CNN, led by Dr. Pratibha Natesh in England, observed that 24 weeks of GLP‑1 treatment boosted testosterone, sperm count and sperm morphology in obese men. The investigators attribute these effects to weight loss, reduced inflammation and lower metabolic stress. Both reports note that the current evidence is limited to men with high body‑mass index and that larger, targeted trials are needed before GLP‑1 agents can be recommended as a first‑line therapy for male infertility.
