Experts and academics have convened to discuss the restoration and preservation of the Gölyazı Ancient Theatre (Apollonia ad Rhyndacum) as archaeological excavations at the site approach completion. Hosted by Nilüfer Municipality, a panel titled ‘Protection Methods and Current Approaches in Ancient Theatres’ focused on how to integrate the structure into cultural tourism without compromising its original identity.

During the panel, moderated by Prof. Dr. Derya Şahin, specialists emphasized the necessity of scientific diagnosis, multidisciplinary cooperation, and modern documentation. Prof. Dr. Bekir Eskici highlighted that the most critical rules in restoration are ‘minimum intervention’ and ‘reversibility,’ noting that any additions made to a monument should be removable and distinguishable to prevent damage caused by insufficient expertise.

Prof. Dr. Yaşar Selçuk Şener added that before direct repairs begin, a complete assessment of the material condition, including traces of past fires, earthquakes, and environmental factors, must be conducted to ensure that new materials do not harm the original structure.
