Early Christian Cemetery Glyfada Samos Orthodox service cultural heritage restoration

A Holy Paraklesis service is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. at the Glyfada Early Christian Cemetery in Samos. Located near Pythagoreio, the site dates from the 4th to the mid-7th century AD and serves as a significant monument of the early Christian communities on the island.

The cemetery contains the graves of three Samian military saints and confessors: Leon, Gregory, and Theodore. This upcoming service marks the first religious ceremony held at the site following its complete restoration and maintenance, a project overseen by the Ministry of Culture following an official visit by Minister Lina Mendoni in July 2026.
