GM Defense unveils autonomous military Silverado UGV prototype

GM Defense has unveiled a prototype for an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) designed for military logistics and casualty evacuation. Unveiled at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) annual meeting, the concept is built on the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD heavy-duty platform and utilizes a dual-rear-wheel skateboard architecture.

The vehicle is intended to support silent logistics and reduce personnel risk in hazardous environments. It features a 100-kWh energy storage system and is capable of carrying a maximum payload of approximately 3,629 kilograms (8,000 pounds). Autonomous operation is powered by Scout AI’s Gx Ground Agent system, which uses a camera-based approach.

Technical specifications include drive-by-wire controls, open interfaces for modular payloads, and an onboard power supply. The demonstration model also showcased integrated defense technologies, such as the Locust X3 counter-drone laser weapon and the Squarehead Discovair G2+ acoustic sensor. GM Defense aims to have the technology ready for military functional trials by June 2027.
