GM Defense unveils autonomous Silverado-based military UGV

GM Defense has unveiled a prototype for an Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) based on the Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD platform. Presented at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) exhibition in Washington, the vehicle is designed for military logistics, including transporting supplies through dangerous environments and evacuating wounded personnel.

The prototype features a unique cabless design to reduce weight and maximize payload capacity, which is approximately 3,600 kg. While the vehicle utilizes a 102 kWh battery to power external equipment and support silent operations, it is not fully electric. Instead, it employs an internal combustion engine connected to a power take-off (PTO) system to recharge the onboard battery.

Functional testing for the autonomous truck is scheduled to begin in 2027. The vehicle is also intended to be adaptable for various defensive roles, including the potential to detect and target enemy drones.
