Gmarket reports three consecutive quarters of transaction growth

Gmarket announced that its gross merchandise volume (GMV) has increased for three consecutive quarters, with cumulative transactions from January to September showing double-digit growth compared to the same period last year. This follows a positive turnaround in the first quarter, marking the company's first growth period in four years.

To sustain this momentum, Gmarket plans to expand its global export business by linking with Alibaba's global platform, potentially reaching 120 countries by the first half of next year. The company is prioritizing the beauty category for international sales and currently utilizes Lazada to reach five Southeast Asian markets.

Additional strategic initiatives include:

• Logistics: A new service will handle product collection and delivery for sellers to reduce inventory management burdens, starting in the Seoul metropolitan area before expanding nationwide. • Content Commerce: The launch of ‘Gmarket Curator’ in November will connect sellers with creators for affiliate marketing via social media. • Artificial Intelligence: The company plans to introduce an LLM-based AI chatbot in early next year for 24-hour customer service, followed by an ‘AI Shopping Agent’ in the second half of the year to assist with product discovery and purchasing.
