GMC suspends Greek NHS doctor for six months over sexual harassment
The United Kingdom's General Medical Council (GMC) imposed a six‑month suspension on a Greek‑national doctor employed by the National Health Service (NHS) after a disciplinary hearing found him guilty of sexual harassment of a younger female colleague.
The panel heard that the doctor showed indecent video and photographs on his phone in July 2023, placed his hand around the colleague’s waist and told her he would have sex with her before leaving for Germany or Greece, and repeatedly made inappropriate comments about his sexual life. He claimed the behaviour was a normal Greek greeting, but the GMC rejected that defence, noting the conduct breached professional boundaries and caused the colleague fear, anxiety and reluctance to work. The doctor expressed remorse, said he felt socially isolated after moving to the UK, and has since attended seminars on professional boundaries.
