Gümüşhane advances agricultural development and local product promotion

Gümüşhane is undertaking strategic initiatives to boost its agricultural sector, focusing on both buckwheat development and the promotion of its geographically indicated Kelkit sugar beans.

A recent value chain analysis conducted by the Gümüşhane Governorship identified significant potential for buckwheat production due to the region's organic production capacity and clean production conditions. The study recommended five priority investment areas, including the establishment of a gluten-free R&D center, the creation of a common 'Gümüşhane Buckwheat' brand, and the construction of processing and packaging facilities to overcome current limitations in economic scale and marketing.

Simultaneously, efforts are underway to promote Kelkit sugar beans through a Guinness World Record attempt. A massive 7,500-liter cauldron, manufactured in Trabzon, will be used in Kelkit on August 22 to prepare over 6,000 liters of bean stew. The project, a collaboration between the Gümüşhane Governorship, Kelkit Municipality, and the Kelkit Chamber of Commerce and Industry, aims to introduce the locally significant product to a global audience.
