Gümüşhane history academic book published

A new academic book titled ‘History of Gümüşhane from Antiquity to the Present’ has been published, compiling research on the history of Gümüşhane and its surroundings. Edited by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merve Karaçay Türkal, the Head of the History Department at Gümüşhane University, the work features contributions from 18 different authors.

The book covers a vast timeline from Antiquity to the 1950s, organized into five main sections: Antiquity, the Middle Ages, the Early Modern Period, the Modern Period, and the Republican Era. The project received academic support from the Atatürk Principles and History of Turkish Revolution Department at Gümüşhane University.

Dr. Türkal noted that the work is a collection of scientific and academic writings rather than symposium proceedings. The research utilizes various historical documents, including ‘ahkam defters’ (court records) and ‘sharia registers’, to provide insight into the region's social structure and the coexistence of different ethnic and religious communities throughout history.
