Gümüşhane releases 257,500 carp into local water sources

As part of the ‘Water Resources Stocking Project’ led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, 257,500 carp fingerlings were released into 11 water sources across Gümüşhane, Turkey.

The fingerlings, raised at the Amasya Yedikır Fisheries Production Facility, were distributed to various locations including the Kürtün Dam Lake, Kelkit Sadak Dam, and several ponds such as Köse Kabaktepe and Oylumdere. Local officials noted that the initiative aims to develop regional fishing, increase fish consumption, and support local tourism by providing recreational opportunities for citizens.

According to Dr. Ahmet Mesut Kıraç, Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, this latest operation brings the total number of carp released into 23 water bodies in the province to 2,598,500. The fish are expected to reach harvestable size within approximately two years, depending on the nutrient levels of the water sources.
