Gümüşhane's Yılanlı Plateau Blanketed in Daisies
The Yılanlı Yaylası, a high‑altitude meadow (2,475 m) in Torul district of Gümüşhane, Turkey, turned into a white carpet of millions of daisies in late June. Situated at the foot of Abdalmusa Mountain (3,331 m), the meadow displayed an unusual mix of lingering snow, dense fog and blooming flowers, drawing photographers and nature lovers.
Visitors described the scene as a “visual feast.” Academic photographer Fatma Cebeci Aydın noted the typical Karadeniz highland weather—clouds, fog and cold temperatures—combined with the sudden daisy bloom. Photographer Metin Aydın highlighted the contrast of snow, mist and flowers, calling the atmosphere “unique” and urging the public to visit the hidden natural beauty.
The phenomenon reflects the region’s layered seasonal patterns, with spring and winter appearing simultaneously, a rarity that has attracted media attention and increased local tourism interest.
