Gmunden council approves 170 million euro Seeviertel hotel project

The Gmunden municipal council has approved changes to the Seeviertel development project, clearing the way for a major hotel investment. The project involves approximately 170 million euros in investment and is expected to create new jobs and increase local purchasing power by roughly 2.5 million euros.

The planned development features a four-star superior hotel with approximately 120 rooms, a restaurant with 190 seats and a terrace, and seminar facilities for about 120 people. The city anticipates various revenue streams, including tourism taxes, water and sewage fees, municipal tax, and building rights rent.

While the ÖVP and FPÖ support the decision, noting that the area has remained an unused wasteland for decades, the SPÖ has criticized the new contractual conditions, particularly the reduction in the required proportion of primary residences. To address housing needs, a compensatory payment will be earmarked specifically for affordable housing, such as starter apartments for young residents of Gmunden.
