Gnarcissists announce new EP ‘Paradise Aquarium’ and single ‘Hi’

Brooklyn-based six-piece band Gnarcissists has announced a new EP titled ‘Paradise Aquarium’, scheduled for release on November 13 through Killphonic Records. The announcement includes the release of the lead single ‘Hi’ alongside a new music video.

The EP was written during a challenging period for the group. Vocalist Matthew Orr was diagnosed with a connective tissue disorder following a serious accident, leading to frequent hospitalizations. Orr noted that the song ‘Hi’ emerged from the surreal experience of being alone in a hospital room, describing a state where “even pain can start to feel comforting because at least it proves you are still here.”

Reflecting these personal hardships, the band’s creative process shifted from their previous reliance on live improvisation toward a more controlled studio environment. The EP was recorded at Sean Lennon’s home studio and produced by Ben Romans Hopcraft. The six-track record, which includes songs such as ‘Earl Grey’, ‘WOW’, and ‘Space Ghost’, explores themes of alienation, loss, and the desire for intimacy amidst physical and emotional instability.
