Gəncə basketball players injured in hotel elevator fall
Five players from the Azerbaijani basketball team Gəncə were injured after a hotel elevator fell three stories the night before their FIBA Europe Cup Group C match in Istanbul.
Despite the accident, FIBA rejected a request from the Azerbaijani club to postpone the game. Consequently, Gəncə played with a depleted roster, fielding only ten of their twelve registered players. The Turkish host team, Esenler Erokspor, won the match 92:63.
Gəncə head coach Martin Knezevic criticized the tournament organization and the choice of the hotel provided by the host club, noting that his players were fortunate to avoid more serious injuries.
