La Plata GNC shortage leaves only 11 of 45 stations operating

The supply of compressed natural gas (GNC) in La Plata remains severely restricted. Out of the 45 stations that normally sell GNC, only 11 are currently operational, with the station on Avenida 32‑6 handling the largest daily capacity of 4,000 m³ while the others manage between 1,000 and 2,000 m³—enough for roughly 70 vehicles each. The crisis affects taxi drivers, remiseros and private‑car owners, who face long queues or are forced to travel to distant stations. Union leader Juan Carlos Berón of the Unión Conductores de Taxímetros de La Plata warned that the reduced activity during winter holidays masks a deeper problem: “The only advantage is fewer cars on the road, but it means no work for us.” Camuzzi, the GNC distributor, announced that all inter‑interruptible contracts were lifted over a weekend, yet the city still lacks sufficient fuel to restore normal service. No official date has been given for a full resolution, and the sector remains uncertain about future restrictions.
