Gniezno opens new pocket park with elevated walkway

A new pocket park has opened in Gniezno, located between Dworcowa and Kościuszka streets. The project, which originated from a 2019 citizen proposal by the Polski Klub Ekologiczny, was eventually realized using European Union funds through Integrated Territorial Investments (ZIT).

A standout feature of the park is a 100-meter elevated walkway built on stilts, allowing visitors to walk above the greenery. The development prioritized biodiversity and climate resilience; all 60 existing trees were preserved, supplemented by 12 new trees and over 1,500 new plantings, including perennials and shrubs.

The space is designed for accessibility, including features for people with disabilities. Amenities include benches, lighting, monitoring for security, and insect houses to support beneficial species. The project was implemented under the European Funds for Wielkopolska 2021-2027 program to increase urban resilience to climate change.
