GNOME releases 49.10 as the final update for the 49 series

GNOME has released version 49.10, the final bugfix and maintenance update for the GNOME 49 “Brescia” series. This release marks the end-of-life (EOL) for the 49 branch, as GNOME 51 is now the current stable generation and GNOME 50 serves as the old-stable branch.

The update focuses on stability, correctness, and security rather than new features. Approximately 14 components received updates, including GNOME Shell, Mutter, Epiphany, and libadwaita. Key technical fixes include addressing glitches in workspace switching, Thunderbolt device authorization, and monitor rendering issues in Mutter.

Security patches are a primary component of this release. Notably, GVfs 1.58.5 addresses CVE-2026-88924 by ensuring socket ownership is set before creation, and the Epiphany browser includes fixes for an autofill JavaScript code injection vulnerability.
