GNOME Sushi receives GTK4 revamp for GNOME 51

GNOME Sushi, the quick file preview utility for the Nautilus file manager, is receiving a significant overhaul for the upcoming GNOME 51 release. The tool has been ported to GTK4, providing a more modern aesthetic that aligns with recent GNOME desktop versions.

Key visual improvements include a flatter header bar and overlay controls for media files that allow content to bleed through the interface. The application now respects system-wide light and dark mode preferences. Additionally, developers have overhauled the window sizing logic to allow the preview canvas to resize dynamically when cycling through files of different dimensions or aspect ratios.

New functional features include support for playing animated GIFs and TIFF images, as well as improved HTML file previews that allow users to opt-in to loading remote content. New keyboard shortcuts have also been introduced: F2 for renaming files, Del for moving files to the trash, O to open files in their default applications, and P to pause or resume media playback.
