GNR seizes fuel and detains suspects in Albufeira operation

The GNR (Guarda Nacional Republicana) has conducted several operations in Portugal targeting suspected maritime drug trafficking logistics. In Albufeira, near Praia do Castelo, authorities detained six individuals and seized approximately 200 jerrycans of fuel. The operation, carried out by the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF), intercepted an attempt to transfer fuel to a high-speed boat. Reports indicate that up to nine foreign nationals of Spanish, Moroccan, and Romanian nationality were involved, with some being minors.

In a separate incident in Setúbal, GNR officers intercepted a gathering of vehicles on the EN10, suspected of being an illegal street race. This operation resulted in the seizure of 17 vehicles due to unauthorized structural modifications, as well as various other traffic violations.

These actions follow a series of recent seizures in the Algarve region. In Alvor, the Maritime Police and GNR have previously seized boats, engines, and large quantities of fuel, suggesting a growing logistical network used to support high-speed vessels for narcotics transport along the coast.
