A 35-year-old driver was arrested in Albufeira, Portugal, after a vehicle ploughed into a crowd of pedestrians in the Oura nightlife district. The incident occurred around 03:00 on a Tuesday in a street known for its concentration of bars and clubs.

According to the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), the driver ignored multiple orders to stop, eventually accelerating toward pedestrians and a police cordon. Officers reportedly fired shots into the air in an attempt to halt the vehicle. The car subsequently crashed into another vehicle before the suspect attempted to flee on foot, where he was apprehended by the Grupo de Intervenção de Ordem Pública.

The collision resulted in 12 injuries, including two GNR officers. One victim, a young woman, was reported to be in serious condition and required surgical intervention; she was scheduled for transfer to a hospital in Porto. Other victims, mostly young people aged 18 to 22, received varying degrees of treatment in Faro and Portimão.

The suspect tested positive for a blood alcohol level of 1.29 g/l and faces charges of aggravated assault, dangerous driving, and driving under the influence of alcohol.
