GNR officer and basketball coach dies in Valongo motorcycle accident

André Ferreira, a 24 or 25-year-old member of the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR) traffic detachment in Grândola, died following a violent collision between his motorcycle and a car in Valongo. The accident occurred on Wednesday night near the EN15, close to the A41 exit in Campo.

Emergency services, including the Valongo Volunteer Firefighters and a Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) from Hospital de São João, responded to the scene. Despite resuscitation efforts, Ferreira succumbed to his injuries.

In addition to his military service, Ferreira was a well-known figure in the local sports community, serving as an athlete and basketball coach for NCR Valongo. The GNR and the Setúbal Territorial Command expressed deep condolences, describing him as a dedicated and professional comrade. The GNR's Accident Road Crime Investigation Unit is currently investigating the circumstances of the crash.
