GNR seizes over 6,700 liters of gasoline in Vila do Bispo and Sagres

The Portuguese National Republican Guard (GNR) seized more than 6,700 liters of gasoline and a vehicle during an operation in the Algarve region. The intervention took place at Cabanas Velhas beach in Vila do Bispo and the Sagres fishing port.

The operation was triggered by the detection of suspicious movements and a high-speed vessel via the Integrated Surveillance, Command and Control System (SIVICC). During the police action, several individuals attempted to flee. Using aerial resources, authorities located two individuals hiding in the vegetation, who were subsequently detained and placed under investigation.

In total, security forces seized 269 jerrycans containing approximately 6,725 liters of gasoline, along with three mobile phones. Of the containers, 162 were found at Cabanas Velhas beach, while 107 were discovered inside a light goods vehicle at the Sagres fishing port. The operation was conducted by the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF) to combat cross-border crime, including fuel and drug trafficking.
