Günther Hubrach, former leader of Rupp + Hubrach, dies at 87

Günther Hubrach, a long-time co-owner and managing director of the optical manufacturer Rupp + Hubrach, has passed away at the age of 87. He died on August 12, 2026.

Hubrach joined the company in 1966 and co-led the firm with Werner Rupp starting in 1983. While Rupp focused on sales, Hubrach was instrumental in production, research, and organizational development. His tenure was marked by significant investments in modern manufacturing technologies and strategic international expansion, including the establishment of a site in Blessington, Ireland.

A strong advocate for science and education, Hubrach fostered collaborations with research institutions like the Fraunhofer Institute and helped establish the R+H Science Prize in 1990 to support young talent in the ophthalmic field. He also introduced the ‘Consistent Teamwork’ (KTA) organizational approach, which emphasized individual responsibility and collaborative culture within the company.
