Günther Steiner discusses MotoGP 2027 engine regulation changes

Günther Steiner, the head of Tech3 Racing, has shared his perspective on the upcoming 2027 MotoGP technical regulations, which will see a transition from 1,000cc to 850cc engines. Steiner described the change as a “small step back in order to take two steps forward in competition.”

He anticipates that the new era will feature less power and reduced aerodynamics, alongside the removal of ride-height devices. While these changes may initially result in slower outright performance, Steiner believes they will enhance racing quality by creating tighter duels and giving riders more control.

Test rider Pol Espargaro also noted that the shift in regulations could significantly alter the competitive hierarchy, potentially benefiting riders stepping up from the Moto2 category. Reflecting on his first half-season in MotoGP after moving from Formula 1, Steiner noted that while some races could be improved, the current racing landscape remains highly exciting.
