Go Nagai discusses his career at Lucca Comics and Games 2026

Legendary Japanese mangaka Go Nagai attended Lucca Comics and Games 2026 to reflect on his fifty-year career. The 81-year-old creator, known for seminal works such as Mazinger Z, Devilman, and Goldrake, participated in a press conference organized in collaboration with J-POP Manga.

Nagai discussed his role in revolutionizing the mecha genre by introducing the concept of giant robots piloted by humans, a development that transformed animated science fiction. He also shared reflections on how his stories anticipated contemporary societal contradictions and expressed concerns regarding how some of his fictional inventions appear to be manifesting in modern reality.

Additionally, discussions surrounding the Goldrake franchise included a review of the French comic book sequel by Xavier Dorison and Denis Bajram. This volume, published in Italy by J-POP Manga, continues the Ufo Robot story set ten years after the victory over Vega, featuring returning characters such as Actarus and Maria.
