Go Up Entertainment investigated over ‘Dark Horse’ film funding
The Federal Police are investigating producer Karina Ferreira da Gama and Go Up Entertainment, the company behind the film ‘Dark Horse’, regarding the suspected misappropriation of public funds. Records show that in 2022, Gama participated in six meetings with members of the Jair Bolsonaro administration to discuss cultural projects and copyright issues.
Disputes have emerged regarding the film's budget. Director Cyrus Nowrasteh characterized reported figures as ‘ridiculously inflated’, arguing that production costs should not be conflated with marketing and distribution expenses. Conversely, Gama maintains that the film required approximately US$ 13 million for development, production, and post-production, excluding promotional costs.
Investigations are also examining financial transfers totaling US$ 12.3 million sent by banker Daniel Vorcaro in 2025. Authorities are working to determine if these funds were used for the film or diverted for other purposes, including supporting Eduardo Bolsonaro's stay in the United States. Mike Davis, a partner at Go Up's American operations, stated that company documents held in the U.S. will not be released to Brazilian authorities without following proper American legal processes.
