Dark Horse producers seek to transfer São Paulo investigation to STF
The production company behind the film ‘Dark Horse’, a biopic about Jair Bolsonaro, has petitioned Supreme Federal Court (STF) Minister André Mendonça to suspend and transfer a São Paulo state investigation. The defense for Karina Ferreira da Gama, owner of Go Up Entertainment and Instituto Conhecer Brasil, argues that the ‘Operação Wi-Fi’ investigation—originally launched to probe a R$ 108 million contract with the São Paulo City Hall for Wi-Fi installation—has improperly expanded to investigate the film's private financing.
The investigation focuses on whether funds from banker Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, were used to finance the production. Defense lawyers contend that this matter is already being addressed in STF inquiries under Mendonça's rapporteurship, making the state-level probe a violation of constitutional competence.
During recent political interviews, Senator Flávio Bolsonaro defended the R$ 61 million in financing provided by Vorcaro, characterizing it as a private, good-faith sponsorship with no political quid pro quo. He maintained that the funds were used exclusively for the film and denied any personal transfer of wealth. Meanwhile, the Federal Police have requested documentation from the production company to verify the origin of resources and all related financial transactions.
