Flávio Bolsonaro denies irregularities in 'Dark Horse' film financing
Flávio Bolsonaro, a presidential candidate, has faced intense scrutiny regarding the financing of the film 'Dark Horse,' a biopic about his father, Jair Bolsonaro. During a televised interview, Bolsonaro denied receiving personal funds from Daniel Vorcaro, owner of Banco Master, asserting that the R$ 61 million investment was a private transaction for the production and not a political quid pro quo. Investigations are currently multi-faceted. The 'Operação Wi-Fi' in São Paulo is examining a R$ 108 million contract between the São Paulo City Hall and the Instituto Conhecer Brasil, an NGO linked to Go Up Entertainment, the film's production company. Defense lawyers for Go Up Entertainment have petitioned Supreme Court Minister André Mendonça to suspend the São Paulo investigation and transfer it to the STF, arguing that the probe has improperly shifted focus toward the film's financing, which is already under STF review.
Reports indicate that Vorcaro may have transferred at least $10.6 million to a fund in the United States to support the project. While Bolsonaro maintains the investment was made in good faith, the production company has yet to deliver all requested financial documents to the Federal Police. Additionally, the film's distribution company, Cannes Produções S/A, was recently condemned in a separate civil case involving financial discrepancies with actress Letícia Spiller.
