Goa College launches marriage readiness course for young adults

The Goa College of Home Science has introduced a 15-day certificate course titled “Marriage Readiness: Preparing for Healthy and Lasting Relationships.” Conducted by the Department of Human Development and Family Studies, the program is scheduled to run from December 2 to 17.

College Principal Mahesh Pai stated that the initiative aims to help participants understand themselves, their partners, and the responsibilities of married life, noting that marriage readiness requires more than just wedding planning. The course is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as unmarried young adults.

The program follows an announcement by Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant regarding state plans to introduce pre-marriage counseling to address rising divorce rates. Data from the state Law Department shows that over 3,000 petitions related to marriage and divorce were filed in Goa’s civil courts between 2022 and 2025, with 947 petitions recorded in 2024 alone.
