Goa sees over 10 million tourists as heritage sites draw visitors

Goa’s tourism has surged, reaching more than 1 crore (10 million) arrivals in 2025. Between January and May 2026 the state welcomed 4.6 million visitors, with May alone recording nearly 970,000 arrivals. The sector now accounts for 16.43% of Goa’s GDP and employs roughly 35% of its population, underscoring its central role in the local economy.

At the same time, cultural attractions such as the ship‑shaped Houses of Goa museum, opened in 1997 and designed by architect Gerard de Cunha, showcase the Portuguese‑influenced Goan architectural heritage. The museum preserves photographs, models, and artifacts that illustrate the evolution of Goan‑style houses and serves as a destination for both tourists and students of architecture and history.
