Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa Sets Record as Mexico’s Most‑Capped World Cup Player

Guillermo Ochoa, the 40‑year‑old Mexican goalkeeper, will become the first keeper to feature in six FIFA World Cups. He debuted for the national team in December 2005 at age 20 and has amassed 153‑154 caps, the most in Mexico’s history. Over his career he has conceded 154 goals, kept 63 clean sheets and logged 13,526 minutes for the Tri.

Ochoa has won seven titles with Mexico – six CONCACAF Gold Cups and one Nations League – and has played in every major tournament including the World Cup, Copa América, Copa Gold, Confederations Cup, World Cup qualifiers and the Nations League. He has not appeared in an official match since November 2024 and, with new manager Javier Aguirre, is unlikely to start, having logged only 45 minutes of friendly action since then. Nonetheless, he remains in the squad for the upcoming World Cup, hoping to add to his record before retirement.
