Jackal attacks 4‑year‑old girl in Polichni, Thessaloniki

On the night of 30‑31 July 2026, a wild animal—identified by witnesses as a jackal—suddenly entered the outdoor area of a tavern/park in the Polichni district of Thessaloniki. The animal bit the 4‑year‑old girl's face, seized her by the back/neck and dragged her several metres before bystanders and the child's parents forced it to retreat.

Emergency services (EKAB) transported the child to the Genna‑tás Hospital, where doctors treated facial wounds, administered necessary vaccinations and, after observation, discharged her to return home. The girl was reported to be in good health. Local authorities are investigating how the animal entered the populated area, noting recent sightings of an injured wild animal nearby, and have called for its safe capture and removal.

The incident sparked panic among residents and prompted the municipality of Paúlou Melá to request immediate action from wildlife and police services to prevent further attacks.
