GOB challenges Port Adriano beach bar project over privatization risks

The environmental group GOB has filed objections against a project to build a new beach bar (chiringuito) in Port Adriano, near El Toro. The plan, promoted by Ocibar and currently under review by Ports de les Illes Balears, includes the construction of a 209.80-square-meter wooden walkway, the covering of an existing channel, and new connection stairs.

GOB warns of a “risk of privatization of public coastal space,” arguing that the project lacks specific details regarding capacity. The group claims the walkway could be used to expand the establishment's footprint and that the ability to increase seating based on demand could lead to a “functional privatization” of public areas. They are demanding that the maximum capacity and the exact boundaries of commercial outdoor areas be strictly defined before authorization is granted.
