Gobustan Solar Power Plant inaugurated in Azerbaijan

President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant in the Garadagh district of Baku on September 16. The project was completed by Universal International Holdings Limited, a Shanghai-based company that won the tender for the site in 2024.

The facility spans 300.77 hectares and is the first project in Azerbaijan to be implemented through an auction process. It is also the first project undertaken by Universal Energy within the country. The plant is equipped with solar panels, field inverters, transformers, and cabling.

Once operational, the station is projected to produce approximately 200 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually. This output is expected to save 45 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and reduce carbon emissions by 97,000 tons annually.
