GOCOP holds 10th Annual Conference in Lagos
The Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP) held its 10th Annual Conference in Lagos, Nigeria, from October 7 to 8, 2026. Under the theme ‘2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities’, the event brought together media executives, policymakers, and security officials to discuss the future of journalism and the upcoming general elections.
Key discussions focused on the impact of technological disruptions on the newsroom, specifically the rise of artificial intelligence and the ‘zero-click’ challenge, where readers consume information via AI summaries without visiting publisher websites. The conference also addressed newsroom sustainability, digital media monetization, and the necessity of accurate, objective reporting to hold government and opposition parties accountable.
GOCOP President Danlami Nmodu urged politicians to prioritize citizen welfare through policy and called for continued partnerships with the government to protect the interests of journalists in the digital age. The conference featured contributions from various experts, including the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, and former Nigerian Bar Association President Dr. Olisa Agbakoba.
