God of War Laufey announced for PS5, starring Faye, concept traced to 2018

At the June PlayStation State of Play, Sony and Santa Monica Studio unveiled the next main‑line entry of the God of War franchise, titled “God of War Laufey”. The game will focus on Faye, the mother of Atreus and wife of Kratos, placing her at the centre of the story rather than as a background figure.

Actress Deborah Ann Woll, who provides the performance for Faye, confirmed that the idea for a Faye‑led title had been proposed to her as early as 2018, well before the public announcement. She said Cory Barlog presented the concept and a poster at that time. The production also highlights extensive motion‑capture work that captured subtle facial movements.

Laufey is confirmed as a PlayStation 5 exclusive with no official launch window yet; some speculation points to a 2027 release. Elements such as the mysterious cube and the character Phranque were shown in the preview.
