God of War Laufey confirmed for February 2027 release on PS5

Sony announced at San Diego Comic‑Con 2026 that the next entry in the God of War series, titled God of War Laufey, will launch on February 16 2027 for PlayStation 5. The game, set in the afterlife of the Norse gods, will place players in control of Faye, a character who must battle deities from multiple mythologies to protect Kratos and Atreus.

The studio also confirmed that a subsequent title will return Kratos as the lead protagonist, though details of its setting were not disclosed. Laufey will be released on physical disc, despite Sony’s plan to cease disc production in January 2028, ensuring collectors can obtain a tangible copy. The release is slated to compete with other major February titles such as Tomb Raider : Legacy of Atlantis and the Xbox Fable reboot.

Cory Barlog, the franchise’s creative director, highlighted the continuation of the series and the confirmed availability of a disc version, addressing recent concerns among fans about Sony’s physical‑media strategy.
