God of War Laufey to Spotlight Faye, Shifting Lead Role Away From Kratos

PlayStation’s State of Play on June 2 unveiled the next main‑line entry in the God of War series, titled God of War Laufey. Developed by Santa Monica Studio for the PlayStation 5, the game will centre on Kratos’s late wife, Faye (also known as Laufey), rather than on Kratos himself.

The story continues directly after the funeral scene shown at the start of the 2018 reboot, exploring Faye’s journey through the after‑life realm “Everywhen.” Creative director Cory Barlog emphasized that the title is “a continuation of the timeline,” not a prequel, and explained that the focus on Faye allows the franchise to expand its mythology while keeping Kratos in the background. Game director Ariel Lawrence described the new combat style as distinct from Kratos’s, aiming to reflect Faye’s strength and flexibility. No release date has been set, but the announcement marks a significant shift for the long‑running series.
