God of War series unveils new game and appoints Cory Barlog as Head of Creative

During the PlayStation State of Play, Sony confirmed a new God of War installment, tentatively titled Laufey, that shifts focus to the character Faye as the next protagonist, continuing the story after the 2018 game rather than serving as a prequel. The preview showed updated combat mechanics, broader mythological settings and hints of encounters with figures such as the Egyptian goddess Sekhmet.

Santa Monica Studio announced that longtime franchise veteran Cory Barlog will step away from the game‑director role, which will be filled by Ariel Lawrence. Barlog will assume the position of Head of Creative, tasked with shaping the long‑term vision for the God of War series, while continuing to collaborate with directors on future titles. Barlog told reporters the upcoming title features “a new story, a new hero,” emphasizing continuity with the series’ mythological roots.
