Ryan Hurst Kratos God of War series bicep injury recast

Actor Ryan Hurst tore his biceps while performing a stunt for the live‑action God of War series in Vancouver in late June 2026. The injury required surgery and a recovery period that would extend into 2027, making it impossible for him to resume filming on the production schedule.

Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios announced that the role of Kratos will be recast and production has been paused. Four episodes that had already been shot with Hurst will need to be reshot with a new actor, while child actor Callum Vinson remains as Atreus. The series, based on the PlayStation franchise and ordered for two seasons, is expected to restart filming in October 2026, though the overall timeline may shift to 2027.

The decision reflects the physical demands of the role and the need to keep the production on track, impacting both the budget and the anticipated release window.
