Godavari River rises to 40 feet in Bhadrachalam following heavy rain
The Godavari River in Telangana has seen a rapid rise in water levels following heavy rainfall and increased upstream inflows. In the temple town of Bhadrachalam, the river level surged to 40 feet on Sunday, up from 17 feet just two days prior. Irrigation Department officials warned that if the water reaches 43 feet, a first-floor flood warning will be issued. Submerged bathing ghats have already been reported in the area.
In Andhra Pradesh, the Vamsadhara River remains in spate in the Srikakulam district, though levels in the Nagavali River have begun to recede. Heavy rains caused by a deep depression that crossed the coast on September 24 have led to flash floods, damaging roads and cutting off several villages.
The flooding has caused significant agricultural impact. In Srikakulam, submerged crops have led to substantial losses for farmers, while in the East Godavari district, hundreds of acres of crops in Gopalapuram have remained underwater for three days, raising concerns over total crop failure.
