Godawan Wins World Whisky Awards as Indian Single Malt Market Booms

Diageo India's Godawan Artisanal Single Malt Whisky secured a Master medal for Godawan 01 Rich & Rounded and Gold medals for Godawan 02 Fruit & Spice and Godawan 173 at The Spirits Business World Whisky Masters 2026. Chief Innovation Officer Vikram Damodaran said the recognitions reinforce the distinct story of Indian single malts and the terroir of Rajasthan.

The wins come amid a rapid expansion of India's single‑malt sector, which reached roughly 500,000 cases in 2025 with domestic brands holding about 92% of the market. The growth has been accelerated by the United Kingdom–India free‑trade agreement that cut the Scotch import tariff from 150% to 75% in July 2026, encouraging both local production and the emergence of a fast‑growing tequila segment in the country.
