Godknows Igali criticizes Minister Umahi over Niger Delta road conditions
Former Nigerian Ambassador Godknows Igali has criticized Minister of Works David Umahi regarding the deteriorating state of major roads in the Niger Delta. Speaking on Africa Independent Television, Igali stated that the actual condition of the infrastructure contradicts the Minister's claims of ongoing rehabilitation and repairs.
Igali highlighted significant delays on key routes, noting that travel times on the East-West Road and the Benin-Asaba corridor have increased drastically. He reported that trips which previously took 40 to 45 minutes now take approximately three hours. He cited recent protests by residents over the Benin-Asaba road as evidence of growing commuter frustration.
The former envoy described the lack of infrastructure as an “injustice,” arguing that the Niger Delta region deserves equitable treatment given its role as a primary source of national revenue for Nigeria.
