Godshill main road to undergo major repairs starting November

Island Roads will begin a major highway improvement project in Godshill on November 2. The work focuses on the section between Godshill Primary School and the main car park, addressing ground issues that have caused deterioration over the last decade.

Due to the need for deep excavations, the road will be closed entirely from Monday to Friday. Island Roads intends to reopen the road on weekends when safe to do so and will provide full access during a scheduled pause for the Christmas and New Year period. Work is set to pause on December 11, 2026, and resume on January 4, 2027, with a target completion date of January 15, 2027. The schedule allows for extensions until January 29 in the event of extreme weather.

The project was scheduled to begin after the October half-term to minimize the impact on local businesses. Traffic will be diverted via Rookley, Blackwater, Arreton, Ventnor Road, and Canteen Road, Apse Heath. Following the foundation repairs, Island Roads plans to return in April 2027 to resurface the entire road during overnight shifts.
