Godswill Akpabio petitions DSS over fake anti-North statement

Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) regarding a viral, fabricated statement allegedly attributed to him. The graphic, which circulated on social media, claimed Akpabio threatened that Northerners would suffer if President Bola Tinubu lost the 2027 presidential election.

Akpabio’s office has dismissed the claim as a “desperate and dangerous lie,” noting the absence of any audio, video, or official transcript to substantiate the quote. Representatives for the Senate President challenged the creators and distributors of the material to provide authentic evidence of the alleged remarks.

The petition specifically names individuals involved in the dissemination of the graphic, including Ibrahim Ammar, whose verified Facebook profile is linked to the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation. Akpabio’s team urged authorities to investigate the matter, suggesting the fabrication was intended to incite regional resentment and ethnic hostility.
